Technical Bulletin MERCEDES-BENZ

We are delighted to present this technical bulletin dedicated to the Mercedes C-Class (W203) , Model C CLASS (W203) , Version C 230 (203.052) (M 272.920) 150 Kw 204 Hp 2496 Cm3 . This bulletin is specially designed to provide detailed procedures and clear instructions to assist you in your maintenance and problem-solving tasks.

SYMPTOMS:

0059 – Cylinder bank 1, exhaust camshaft (P0014). Camshaft position timing over-advanced.

0064 – Cylinder bank 2, exhaust camshaft(P0025).

Camshaft position timing over-retarded.

0276 – Cylinder bank 2, intake camshaft (P0022). Camshaft position timing over-retarded.

0275 – Cylinder bank 2, intake camshaft (P0021).

Camshaft position timing over-advanced.

0272 – Cylinder bank 1, intake camshaft (P0012). Camshaft position timing over-retarded.

0060 – Cylinder bank 1, exhaust camshaft (P0015).

Camshaft position timing over-retarded.

0063 – Cylinder bank 2, exhaust camshaft (P0024). Camshaft position timing over-advanced.

0271 – Cylinder bank 1, intake camshaft (P0011).

-Camshaft position timing over-advanced.

-Fault codes recorded in the engine control unit. The vehicle displays one or several previous fault codes.

-Engine warning light (MIL) ON.

The following symptoms are observed in the workshop:

  • The camshaft adjustment electromagnet is impregnated with oil.

NOTE: This technical note only affects those vehicles equipped with a specific type of engine.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

  • Malfunction of the electromagnet pusher.
  • Operating defect of the electromagnet gasket.
  • Defective o-ring of the camshaft adjustment position sensor.

SOLUTION:

Repair procedure:

  • Read the fault codes recorded in the engine control unit with the diagnostic tool.
  • Confirm that one or several of the fault codes that appear in the field symptoms of this bulletin are displayed.
  • Confirm that the symptoms mentioned in the symptom field of this bulletin are reproduced.
  • Replace the damaged camshaft adjustment electromagnet with a new one.
  • Replace the gasket of the camshaft position sensor closest to the electromagnet.
  • Delete the fault codes reported by the engine control unit with the diagnostic tool.
  • Perform a second trouble code reading on the engine control unit (ECU) with the diagnostic tool and confirm that the trouble codes listed in the symptom field of this bulletin are NOT recorded.
