Technical Bulletin HYUNDAI TUCSON (JM)

We are thrilled to introduce this technical bulletin dedicated to the HYUNDAI , MODEL TUCSON (JM), VERSION 2.0 (G4GC) 104 KW 141 HP 1975 Cm3. Our aim with this bulletin is to offer comprehensive procedures and concise instructions, providing invaluable support for your maintenance and troubleshooting endeavors.

SYMPTOMS:

P0011 – Camshaft position A. Timing over- advanced or out of range. System failure.

P0021 – Camshaft position sensor. Advanced performance. (Bank 2).

The vehicle displays one or several of the above-mentioned fault codes.

Fault codes recorded in the engine control unit.

Engine warning light (MIL) ON. Unstable idling.

Poor acceleration. Power loss.

Poor combustion.

Difficulty when starting the engine.

NOTE: This informative bulletin only affects those vehicles with variable valve timing control.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:

Defect in the variable timing valve.

NOTE: The above-mentioned fault codes may be accompanied by other fault codes related to variable timing.

SOLUTION:

Repair procedure:

  • Read the fault codes recorded in the engine control unit using the diagnostic tool.
  • Confirm that the fault codes related to the variable timing valve are recorded.
  • Confirm that the symptoms mentioned in the field symptoms of this bulletin are reproduced.
  • Check the condition of the variable timing valve and the connection (rust on the contacts).
  • Check the condition of the variable timing valve wiring, and repair it if necessary.
  • Check that the variable timing valve is supplied with the correct oil pressure and that it is not clogged.
  • Disconnect the variable timing valve.

•  Check the resistance between the two pins of the connector at an ambient temperatu- re of 20 °C (68 °F):

Siemens: Resistance between 6.8 and 8 Ohm. Denso: Resistance between 6.9 and 7.9 Ohm. Delphi: Resistance between 6.7 and 7.7 Ohm.

  • Replace the variable timing valve if the values are not correct.
  • Remove the variable timing valve if the values are correct.
  • Check the variable valve for mechanical damage or metal chips. Clean it with compressed air or replace it if necessary. See picture 1.
